Flannel, Los Angeles
I'm a little grumpy today, despite the momentary excitement of dropping off my laundry at the organic wash-and-fold down the street for the first time. It's cold--I'm wearing two coats most days--and for some reason moving has unleashed some sort of unexpected emotional shitstorm. Maybe it's just the winter blues? Your thoughts?
In response to all of this uproar, I've decided to take action and write about stuff I discovered while I was in Los Angeles in November. Why? Because Los Angeles is warm and sunny, and those weather conditions made me pretty freaking psyched about life. Up on the docket is Flannel, a lovely Australian brand whose Venice outpost is on Abbot-Kinney, on what has been called "the coolest block in America." Call me shallow, but that's a pretty good recommendation. While I didn't see any flannel in the shop (although I did just notice a cute flannel dress on the, e-shop), I did see plenty of bohemian-chic dresses and tops and vests and sweaters that you could wear with Converse for those afternoons when you're called upon to run through a flower filled field, or with dainty little sandals for dinner at Gjelina. Their clothes made me want to cook a fantastic meal for my non-existent husband using organic produce from Summerland LA, or throw a party with the help of Valley Brink Road. Thing is, these clothes are appropriate for your fantasy life as well as for your real life. I might not wear the white fur vest to work at the coffee shop, but I would certainly wear this guy.
Okay, I feel better now.
