My styley friend: Juniper Ethersmith

All images shot with my Pentax K-1000 and real live film.

Shirt: Beyond Vintage. Hat, jewelry, jacket: Juniper’s own.

Remember how a few months ago I did a giveaway with Beyond Vintage, one of my favorite brands? Well, my friend Juniper Ethersmith won two lovely shirts from them, so we just had to play dress up and do a photo shoot. And an interview of course.

Where do you live and what do you do?

I live on Nob Hill in San Francisco. I have an office job, I am a curator for a gallery and I am a new mom.

“Gallerist” is one of the many hats that you wear. Who are some of your favorite artists and why?

My tastes in art are diverse. I enjoy everything from the simplistic beauty of Lalique to the raw feel of Basquiat. Mathew Barney is a favorite of mine because of his irreverent nature, intense imagery and his homage to art history in every frame of his films.

What is your favorite style era and why?

The 1920′s and 1930′s are an interesting span of time where you get to see women’s fashions becoming more extreme.

Shirt: Beyond Vintage. Hat, glass, necklaces: Juniper’s own.

What makes you get up in the morning?

It used to be the excitement of working on my art, now it is a smiling baby.

What’s something you’re obsessed with at the moment?

Laser cut wool felt jewelry from Biodidactic Designs in Brooklyn and my new Fluevog boots!

Where do you like to hang out in San Francisco?

There are fabulous walking places in our city that take you through neighborhoods and past beautiful shops and delicious things to eat. The Mission neighborhood, Polk Street and Hyde Street are three of my favorites.

What is your life philosophy/mantra?

I like to borrow the words from Dr. Bronner’s soap labels because it sums it up nicely: “All One God Faith.”
