Who did your tattoo?
A man in Turkey. I got it on holiday, three weeks ago.
What do you do here in New York?
I’m working as a designer, so I design sets for photo shoots and things like that. And I make props, and I do costumes.
What are you working on right now?
Right now I’m working on a still life story for In Style magazine.
What sorts of things inspire you? What sorts of things do you bring to your work?
Theatrical things, really. Right now I’m really into everything Art Deco. Things of the past. And people as well. Hair colors.
What are you reading right now?
I got a really cool book about Erte at the Strand. He was a stage designer, and he did really amazing costumes.
How would describe your style, by which I mean your clothing style and your style of being in the world?
Inspired by the 80s. Just a mix-mash really. I like things that people generally find uncool. For example: I got these jelly shoes a week ago, and everyone said they were awful, but I thought they were really cool. If I like what I’m wearing, that’s what matters.
And is that what you’re like in life too?
Yes. Just be yourself.
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
Probably my tattoo: Come as you are.
