A few weeks ago my friend Janis (last seen here) and I spent the afternoon at Indian Springs in Calistoga. We hung out at the mineral pool–heated to 102 degrees in winter and 92 degrees in summer–ate a picnic we’d brought with us, and drank water flavored with cucumber and citrus fruits. At Indian Springs you really feel like you’ve traveled back in time to Hollywood in the 1930s. You just want to throw on a caftan and hole up in your bungalow drinking Arnold Palmers (or Tom Collinses) and reading scripts, with an occasional excursion to the spa for massages and mudbaths.
