When I met Adelle McElveen, founder and editor-in-chief of the blog The Fashionista Lab, I was immediately impressed by her obvious style and intelligence. I knew I had to feature her on the blog as a styley friend. So we did a photo shoot.
But then one thing led to another and somehow I never ran the post. And in the ensuing months, Adelle’s life changed significantly. When I saw her at the first-ever San Francisco Fashion Film Festival a couple of weeks ago–she is one of the founders–I realized that the time had come for her to appear on these pages. Enjoy!
Q: Where do you live?
A: In the Mission, near all the fun stuff!
Q: What do you do?
A: I just finished producing the SF Fashion Film Festival. I’m a co-founder and the executive director. I was doing the job of five people for about six months, so now that it’s over I’m chilling a bit before jumping into the next thing. Towards the end of the festival I started picking up some freelance writing, but now it’s time to look for a full-time job.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: “Minimalist bohemian.” I like to look a little bit different every day, but my staples are playing with color, texture and volume.
Q: What inspires you?
A: I wish I could be more specific, but just being out in the world constantly gives me new ideas.
Q: What do you value most in the world?
A: Courage, naivete, arrogance. I’m only half-kidding. It was a combination of those qualities that allowed me to think I could pull off a film festival…but it worked!
Q: What would you do if you knew you would not fail?
A: Exactly what I did–make a gamble having no idea if it would pay off.
