I hadn’t submitted for a while, but since the theme this week was flats, and I love flats, I decided to send something in to the New York Times online. And I was in luck: they featured me in the “Best of Readers’ Streetstyle” feature today, which always makes me happy. To see the story in its gorgeous entirely, click here.

Why only have some, when you can have more? San Francisco is in the middle of its fickle spring, which means that you see a lot of sockless people wearing heavy jackets and big scarves. My point is that there are plenty of flat shoes on our streets. Why not give them their day on the blog?

I’m totally kicking myself for not sending the Times this particular photo. The instructions listed flats, loafers and moccasins, but not oxfords. Which is unfortunate, because this girl’s outfit is SO CUTE, and as you’ll see if you view the story, there are oxfords aplenty. The lesson? Go with your gut. They can always say no.

The overcoat/flats combination that I mentioned earlier? See above for an example of what I’m talking about. The whole cold/no socks situation sounds confusing, but according to my younger brother Scott, your feet don’t get cold or lose heat or something like that, I’m not quite sure. At the time, we were talking about people who run barefoot in the winter, but I think I was too distracted by the overarching question–who does that?–to really listen to the answer.
And now that I look at it, I’m kind of regretting I didn’t submit this picture too. I totally forgot about it. Oh well. Live and learn. Maybe the NYT will have an oxfords week sometime soon.
