Street Style: Ivy League

A few weeks ago, I indulged in some serious prepster action by going to the Harvard-Yale game with a friend of mine. I don’t understand football, and never have, but for me, going to The Game is more of a cultural event than an athletic one.

Please note the letterman sweater in the upper left. I’ve always secretly wanted one. And how snazzy is the gentleman in the suspenders? His buddy on the lower left kind of looks like the writer John Updike. Updike, who died a couple of years ago, was one of the most important writers of the 20th century (in my opinion). Talk about style. If you don’t know his work, you can buy some of it here, and I suggest that you do. Now.

The experience was exactly what you’d expect. People eating high-cholesterol food while drinking beer and cocktails. At ten AM.

The upshot? Yale got “spanked,” as my classmate Heather put it. Oh well.
