When Janis and I met I thought she was nuts and she thought I was a beezatch. Luckily we got over ourselves pretty quickly and have been friends ever since.
We held our photo shoot at Janis’ house in the Mission, which is, according to her, “On the corner of god and hookers, to be exact.”

Dress: Urban Outfitters. Earrings: 1228. Gold pumps: Salvation Army. Clutch: From our friend Annie’s grandmother, Mimi. (Annie, a student in fashion design at California College of the Arts, has her own blog, which you can find here. Actually, Janis has a blog too. Check it out here.)
Janis makes and sells cloth brooches called Ragdoll Hearts. She is also a student at City College San Francisco, where she’s studying pretty much anything she finds interesting. She’s inspired “by the world. Seriously. I am inspired by the lint on my stockings to the sun setting on the city and everything in between.”

Striped bootie shorts/shirt combo: sidewalk sale.
Janis is probably the best vintage shopper I’ve ever met, and is planning, at some point, to start a personal shopping business that focuses on vintage (stay tuned for details). She manages to find great stuff at even the lamest looking yard sales. Not surprisingly, her style is wide-ranging. She describes it as “eclectic, elegant and playful OR the bitch you love to hate OR lady on the street but a freak in the bed.” There you go.

Dress: Community Thrift. Belt: Forever 21. Badass bamboo hoop earrings: the dollar store.
The soundtrack to Janis’ life? Lately, it’s been The Roots, Little Dragon, and “as always, Lil Wayne and Joni Mitchell.” She’s watched Guy Ritchie’s Revolver twice in the past week–Andre 3000, who we both love, is in it. She’s reading Richard Brautigan’s In Watermelon Sugar, which “talks about tigers teaching arithmetic and bedsheets made of watermelon sugar. It supposedly has some deep meaning but I just find it clever and entertaining in a fantasy world kind of way.”

Earrings: Alameda Flea Market. Black fringe jumpsuit: Painted Bird. If you live in SF, you should run, not walk there right now.
Do we need to see that jumpsuit one more time? I think we do:

Janis’ philosophy of life? Two things:
1) Do what I love and fuck the rest.
2) I’ll only get my wings after I jump.
You can’t argue with that shiz.
