Welcome to Round 2 of “My Styley Friend.” Say hello to the lovely Vannessa Seacrest.
Vannessa and her husband recently moved to a beautiful house in Laurel Heights, which is where we held the shoot. After eating salad with chicken and asparagus, we headed upstairs to explore Vannessa’s closet. Because Princess Kate is one of Vannessa’s style icons (as well as Jenna Lyons of J. Crew), I thought it would be fun to go with a lady-at-an-afternoon-garden-party sort of theme. Which meant, of course, that we had to begin outside:

Vannessa used to live in New York–one of our bonds–and work in finance (not so much of a bond). She quit her job about a year ago and since then has been able to return to some old passions: volunteering and aesthetics (ceramics, interior design). So we took a picture in the dining room. Note the pressed tin and buttery yellow paint on the wall:

When she lived on the East Coast, Vannessa’s style was “straight-up preppy,” but since moving to the West Coast “I’ve smoothed out quite a bit.” She says, “I feel like my style now reflects a hybrid of East Coast preppy (I still pop my collars and love fun, bright colors) and West Coast simplicity/casual (now that I don’t work, I spend most of my days in jeans, loose-fitted tees and cardigans with a fun, chunky necklace.”

Dress: Milly. Shoes: J. Crew. Coat: Diane von Furstenberg. Bag: Michael Kors.
